Have you heard of Twenty One Pilots new album „Trench“ yet? No? Then you definitely should! Since the beginning, Tyler and Josh, the two members of the band, have helped so many young people go through the dark phases of their lifes or even through depression. With their deep and moving lyrics, which also deal with their own fears and problems, they create an emotional bond between them and their fans, who call themselves the „Skeleton Clique“.
A new era begins in the end of 2018 – the band’s last album was mainly about Tyler’s demon „Blurryface“, who is standing for all the negativity and anxiousness in his mind, always tryig to effect the singer in negative ways. Since than, nobody has heard of them both until the new album release. They did’nt post anything for about two years in total while the Clique was nervously waiting for a sign.
But then they finally came back with the new album which now deals with a different kind of story line. This time, the lyrics tells a story about a place called Dema (like Demon) which is ruled by nine Bishops. The names of these bishops can be found in previous songs of the album „Blurryface“, so the story kind of builds up on the music they did before. They only name that can’t be found in these songs is Nico, the name of the bishop who seems to be Blurryface. Dema stands for an opressive society from which people try to escape, such as Clancy, a fictive character. While the nine bishops constantly retrieve and try to controll the people in the village, there are also the banditos, the ones who are closest to them, trying to help fleeing.
It’s all a little bit confusing and hard to understand in the beginning, but I promise you that it all makes sense if you listen to Twenty One Pilot’s music closely. And then you will understand that all these places and people symbolize hurdles in our lifes but also showing us that there are our friends and family who love us and who are there for us. And most importantly, that the Clique will make it through all the dark times, together.
